I ate oranges all my life and met that blue mussels out of oranges, the kind that penetrate through the outer skin. Recently I bought a crate of oranges that gave immaculate from the outside, and besides, they felt the company, but when open, - any one of them was infected by the red black mold inside that grew along the core axis first before spreading to the skin (in later stages).

In the many years I ate oranges, I have never seen this before. Besides feeling ripped off having wasted money on a case of oranges, I am a little worried because I can no longer trust the integrity (since I can not check before) of oranges in the stores longer.

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the peel of navel oranges have been grown to be so loose now that fungi can easily penetrate into the shaft area, and thus escape detection. In the early stages of infection, you see a reddish tinge on the edges inside the orange slices (across the core axis). As the infection spreads outward from there, and intensifies, it becomes a grapefruit from red to black. However, the early "red" stages of the orange is already in ruins, because it has a bitter taste and causes gastric distress.
